The Stories that meant something

I just watched the end of Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers again. These movies are truly works of art, on so many levels.

Not giving into despair despite overwhelming odds, despite setbacks and deaths. I hope that I can glean the resolve of Sam Gamgee during the struggles and trials that I face daily.

I hope I remember "There is still good in the world, and it is worth fighting for."

Dune

I have started reading the sci-fi classic Dune series this year.

I just started reading Children of Dune. This installment of the Dune series is just as interesting as the previous two. There is something in my mind that is captured when I think of the war between House Atreides and House Harkonnen. When I think of giant sandworms and Fremen fighting Sardukar. Frank Herbert created a powerful universe in this series.

These books do a wonderful job of talking about Power and it's limitations. In Children of Dune the Empire run by Alia has become more and more corrupt. It is horrendous to see Alia being taken over by the Baron Harkonnen in her mind. That which freed thousands has now become the oppressor.

When I look at the condition of the Church I wonder whether it has not also fallen into decay and corruption. I wonder how much of what the Church does is just maintenance of the organization. Do we really have a heart for the people anymore. Or has the Church become the new oppresor of those we are trying to free?

I wonder sometimes.

My Favorite Breakfast in Vegas

My Favorite breakfast in Vegas is the Mandalay Bay Breakfast Buffet.

When my wife and I found out that our adoption fell through we decided to go to Vegas.

I mean what is more distracting than all the lights of Vegas. It is surely better than sitting at home being miserable. Whynot go be miserable somewhere else.

Contrary to most of my BLOG I am a very upbeat easy going fellow. I guess I share all my deep thoughts with you guys.

Anyway one of my non-Deep thoughts is that I love the Mandalay Bay Breakfast Buffet. Why you ask? Because it has Lox,Bagels, onions, capers, and cream cheese. Also it has a really good smoked Dill Trout.

Everyday I would make my pilgramage to the Buffet and chow down on Lox. I love gambling but I like eating more. I guess that is the secret of Vegas, they package our sins in lovely wrappers.

The Tears Keep Falling

My wife and I have been trying to start a family either thru fertility docs or Adoption for almost 5 years.

We were working on a private adoption. The birthmother had the baby on tuesday, we even got to hold the baby. Every indication was that the adoption was going to go forward.

Then we went to the Hospital on Wendsday and found out that the birthmother had changed her mind and was going to parent the baby.

Parent? She has two childrent already and they are too much of an obligation for her.

Sometimes I just want to scream!

So here I am on Friday without a Baby.
