The Wheel of Time

"Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder's eye on the Last Day." (pg. 170, The Great Hunt by Robert Jordan)

I have been re-reading the Wheel of Time series. Book 11 the Knife of Dreams comes out next October. I realized that I wanted to venture back in the series so I would know what has been happening. This series of books is massive but most Fantasy nuts enjoy long books.

I liked the quote above, because it reminded me that that is the same determination we have to take up in our Christian walk. Sometimes the Dark One throws everything plus the kitchen sink at you, but you need to stand firm in the day of evil. Ephesians exorts us to put on the full Armor of God so we would not be destroyed by the Dark One of this reality.

I think modern Christians need some of the Aiel in them. We have to remember who our enemy is and to give the last full measure of our devotion in his defeat.

"Aiel: [1 - 4] The people of the Aiel Waste. Fierce and hardy. Also called Aielmen. They veil their faces before they kill, giving rise to the saying "acting like a black-veiled Aiel" to describe someone who is being violent. Deadly warriors with weapons or with nothing but their bare hands, they will not touch a sword. Their pipers play them into battle with the music of dances, and Aielmen call battle "the dance," and "the dance of spears."
[5] They are divided into twelve clans: the Chareen, the Codarra, the Daryne, the Goshien, the Miagoma, the Nakai, the Reyn, the Shaarad, the Shaido, the Shiande, the Taardad, and the Tomanelle. Sometimes they speak of a thirteenth clan, the Clan That Is Not, the Jenn, who were the builders of Rhuidean.
[6] All know that Aiel supposedly once failed the Aes Sedai and were banished to the Aiel Waste for that sin, and that they will be destroyed if they ever fail Aes Sedai again."

There is the standard Wheel of Time definition of who the Aiel are. The Quote at the beginning of the Blog is an Aiel saying.

Hope that helps
